modify the header and footer, so that

Hi Edixon,
you need to override the templates that are used by these zones. To know which templates are concerned, log in to your admin interface and enable DebugOutput + ShowUsedTemplates (you can also do it in a configuration file, but I'm not sure you know how to do that). Go back to your frontend, you should see, at the bottom of the screen, a list of used templates.
Then, create and extension, enable a new design within this extension, and create all the files you need to override the templates you want. If you don't know how to do that, I suggest that you read carefully the documentation, since it is a really basic task.
