The difference between various CMS systems and eZ Publish...

Hi @ eZ Team,
i think the difference between various CMS systems and eZ Publish... it takes too long to get familiar with eZ Publish... other systems can be used out of the box... without much knowledge...

on the last few days, I watched on github the ezdemodesign project... and the community needs real life examples...

for example:
some filter: how do I filter the article / product categories?

or the footer...

in europe / germany, we need a legal notice ... No one has a contact form in the footer ... But everyone needs a legal notice, terms and conditions - why is this content not available in the demo?

eZ Publish has all these possibilities... so please show it...!!!

Hi Michael,

Sounds like a good idea to me! Something like Show Case distributions. Similar to the ezwebin extension, but with different design and goal/purposes for the site e.g. distribution. Accompanied with some basic documentation and maybe a page like http://drupal.org/popular-science. That would really help people get started, and show what eZ can do.

Would be an even better idea if a few community members could team up and make this happen happy.gif Emoticon

Hi Robin,

that's what I say... but unfortunately my english is not good enough to explain it in detail...

a little example...
eZ Publish has a shop system... eZ Publish has the ability to move classes... eZ Publish has workflows...

why not show eZ the way how I buy a premium account and will thus moved to a different group...

or a another example... share.ez.no

I see that it is possible to apply different filters for contents... but for my own site ... I need to program again...
on share.ez.no is also a special search form - but there is no statement as to how I install this on my site...

eZ Publish has so many possibilities... but no one see it...

It was tried before, check ezpublish 3.8.x and prior. The problem is maintain everything with limited resources, plus I do prefer a good solid code base and a simple demo that we can build on top of it easily than several small extensions with a poor code base. The best would have both, but given the limited resources and the relative small community, I believe it's just better to keep it as it is. Anyway, you can always check http://projects.ez.no/ sometimes somebody starts something there that is exactly what you want. I have checked some of the most useful extensions in projects site, they are actually the simplest ones but polished.

As a community contributor I tried to develop a social network extension, and it is working, but it is not so advanced, the problem is: you can allocated some hours to create a simple extension that nobody cares for free, but you simple can't allocate months of your free time to create a high quality extension that would be useful for everybody without money, and by everybody I mean a very small community, so it's just better to have a life sometimes, other times interests changes, right now I'm kind of dedicating part of my free time to learn how to develop Unity3D editor extension, as a hobby it's ok, I do it for free and I learn a new technology, and by choosing between free and free, I choose the one that I can learn a new thing.

The solution here is simple, take a developer course, maybe try to participate in the Croatian Summer Camp that will happen in September, and create your own code base that will speed up your development workflow/time.

Hi Thiago,

i not need a Croatian Summer Camp... i need a english course... that is the first...

i also not want someone else takes my job...

but eZ have so many opportunities... and no one sees... my examples were for me... ok...

but for the future it would be better if ez shows his power...

i 've seen mambo to joomla... oscommerce to xtcommerce... wordpress 2.x to wordpress 3.x... typo3 3.x to 4.x... ezpublish 3.x to 4.x...

and so on... everyone cooks his own soup... but the community needs resistance... and examples... and that's what I mean...

Hi Michael,

You're making good points - summarising the features & benefits of eZ Publish should be easy - which it is, but there's nowhere in the community that covers this; and the Enterprise marketing-speak is so abstract it's positively useless for developers.

Unfortunately there is no community wiki here - eZPedia.org is good in parts though.
