Week in eZ #2

News

eZ Community Board renewal

Last week I covered the call for nominations by the eZ Community Board. We have seen existing members, and new ones, nominate themselves. If you want to make a difference in the eZ Community, read that post, and comment to nominate yourself, if you want to put your knowledge and skills to use in our board and the eZ community.

Symfony news

Plenty of news this week, coming from Symfony. Firth thing we can read on their blog, is about streamlined log files. "In the latest Symfony versions, by default only the important information is logged." More details, including examples, can be found here.

Symfony also announced several releases, which include versions 2.8.2, 2.7.9, 2.6.13, and 2.3.37. You can find both the announcement and release notes on their blog.

Finally a "week of symfony #471" which was published. "Significant changes were that FrameworkBundle now allows to autowire the service_container and that a bug related to assets version strategy was fixed."

PHP and eZ Platform benchmarks

Jani Tarvainen posted several PHP and eZ Platform benchmarks on our forum. As Jani mentions, "these could be helpful in considering baseline performance changes you can achieve with different options. For his first benchmark, comparing PHP 5.6, HHVM and PHP 7, he concludes: "PHP 7 is a significant improvement both over PHP 5.6 and HHVM. Together with the highest performance it features an impressively low memory usage."

Social media

Gaetano Giunta is Tweeting about one of his extensions, ezperformancelogger, to have its KPI measures output via Nginx log files.

Lars Eirik Rønning, from Making Waves, Tweeted about Orkla.com which has been elected best corporate website in Norway.

Resources

New on the documentation site are the eZ User Manual, and the eZ Technical Manual. The first manual "will guide you to understand how to use eZ Platform and eZ Studio interfaces." The second "covers technical functionality for all current eZ software. Everything from our open source Symfony full stack based CMF eZ Platform, to solutions extending the platform."
