Images on Amazon S3? It Is Coming

Thursday 05 June 2014 04:09

by Bertrand Dunogier  | 5 comments

It’s an increasingly common requirement to store images for a website on specialized cloud hosts such as Amazon S3, whether it’s for redundancy, geographical optimization, scalability, or cost of maintenance.

So far, it was considered complex, if not impossible, to implement it cleanly on eZ Publish Legacy. It turns out this is not the case. The legacy DFS cluster handler makes it quite easy. Moreover, being pragmatic, as long as the legacy backoffice will be there, New Stack only solutions are a no-go if they're required here. To get something that works with the new stack, and is usable in the admin, it must at the very least work with the Legacy Kernel.

5.3 to come with broader platform support and improved performance

Friday 23 May 2014 02:47

by André R  | 0 comments

As (among other things) mentioned in the "Technology Outlook" post, we have been wanting to increase our level of support for broader configurations to run eZ Publish Platform on. Today we can present the first of several such steps, with the introduction of support for an additional platform.

Changes #2: Technology Outlook towards eZ Platform

Friday 16 May 2014 02:22

by André R  | 6 comments

As mentioned in the opening of this blog there has been some changes in eZ Engineering over the last year, and some are still ongoing. Today we’ll cover some technology choices we have dealt with and are currently evaluating, and a small outlook towards “eZ Platform” to give a picture of what we have in mind, parts of which will also benefit the upcoming eZ Publish Platform 5.3 release, and bigger parts for the 5.4 November release.

Security updates for eZ Publish & extensions

Wednesday 07 May 2014 03:38

by André R  | 0 comments

Getting ready for new release means also pushing out security updates we have had recently for enterprise subscribers, and this time there is quite some updates thanks among other to some of our clients doing deep audits finding missing output escaping, and a notable regression in session handling.

by André R  | 1 comment

With eZ Publish 5.3 just around the corner and string freeze in effect as of last week, it is time for a small translation effort involving everyone to make sure we have good translations for this important LTS version.

Missing documentation

Wednesday 23 April 2014 05:46

by Sarah Haïm-Lubczanski  | 5 comments

Documentation is crucial to users, beginners and experimented ones. As the eZ Publish Platform 5 grows and changes very quickly, the documentation has stacked up a big debt: some important topics are not documented, other are incomplete, or too complex...

Call for developer feedback: the query builder

Friday 14 March 2014 01:06

by Bertrand Dunogier  | 10 comments

We believe that even though only bad craftsmen blame their tools, one still does a better job with the right one. A sledgehammer will get a standard nail into a plank, but it will take more preparation, more care and more time than with a good old hammer.

Now that the foundations of our repository and its API are established, we want to take a step up another layer, and focus on developer usability by making it easier to query the repository for content. But we lack the one thing you can provide us with: feedback and use-cases. But let’s explain what the situation is, and what we have in mind exactly.

The eZ Publish 5 FieldType tutorial is available

Friday 07 March 2014 04:37

by Bertrand Dunogier  | 2 comments

Field Types are the most granular building block for content managed by eZ Publish. Custom FieldTypes are a very powerful type of extension, since they allow you to hook deep into the content model.

Changes: #1 Opening up, starting with this dev blog

Thursday 06 March 2014 01:44

by André R  | 3 comments

eZ has changed a lot over the last year: management changes, slight product strategy update, new engineering office in Katowice, Poland, and not the least: technical changes! And we have been wanting to share more on such changes for a while. Why they happen, why we went such way and not another. This is what this blog is about.
