Here are our bi-weekly meeting minutes. Our big success of the previous two weeks was a successful upgrade of, and our focus for the next two weeks will be on the participation model document. Our previous meeting minutes can be found here.

Date : 2010, Dec 6th.
Participants : Robin, Carlos, Thiago, Nicolas, Philippe
Where : skype

Prior action points : status + evolution

1/ Migrating the old contribs section

LAST CALL : 5-liner blog post to recall people they can :

  • claim for ownership on migrated projects
  • ask for removal of old projects of theirs.

(Assigned to: Robin)

2/ Upgrading to eZ Publish Fuji (4.4).

3/ : needs love and safeguarding

Accompanying people in using github seems to be the best option. This means that the SVN mirror of eZ Publish’s repo will not be restored, and the team and eZ employees should lend a hand on that topic.
A screencast could (should ?) come with the tutorial.
No feedback from the broad community about this repository : . Decision is made to :

  1. make an export of this repository and archive it in a safe place
  2. close it down

4/ Cleaning-up

The pre-requisites for this are completing the upgrade to 4.4.

5/ Participation model around the Community Project

A digest of all input so far was made by Nicolas, and a first skeleton of document was proposed.

Random notes on this :
The goal of this participation model is to engage existing community members and new comers to participate actively to the whole community’s life (information exchange and development), and more particularly to the Community Project.

This needs to be fun, to show new people that we have this community and wire them in for all kinds of participation.

“What will this be used for ?” --> “What is the objective of having a Participation Model ?” and the “Individuals” part of the Community Program ( )

We should also assume that some people will not even read the full doc, and will just start using/playing with the reputation system --> it needs to be seamlessly integrated on and be simple to use. A strong connection with the users profiles is required.

The participation model needs to be presented in :

  • One main landing page ( /get-involved ), short, inviting people to participate, explaining why, but not giving all information in details
  • Sub-landing pages, linked-to from the main landing page, giving details on specific points:
    - all communication channels (currently listed on the get-involved page), with foldable paragraphs containing details about each channel
    - the badges
    - the points for types of participation
    - how to develop : extensions & Community Project

This page needs to be the “Welcome” page for any new member, assisting in the first steps in our Community. Similar ideas are implemented here :, and good ideas are shown here,,

This should be the first step towards opening-up to more beginners, lower the entry-barrier the eZ Community , sometimes sensed as a slightly hard-core one.

Commitment : proposing the RFC to the community before the next meeting.

New topics

  • Job Board ?
  • Event planner. Should include corporate eZ events, and give the possibility to “register” or RSVP to an event.
  • Local communities : how to establish a clear link between the already existing local communities (French, Brazilian), back & forth, and help them if they need us.

Overflown from last time :

  • Upgrading to eZ 4.4
  • Moving translation process to using GIT
  • Access to Documentation : how to improve ? Need a discussion on “licensing” as well (see ezpedia)

Prioritized next steps

  1. BIG FOCUS : Participation Model
  2. Upgrading to 4.4
  3. Job Board
  4. Clean-up/revamp of

Next time
