problem with noticifacation email in blog

Thursday 20 September 2012 3:51:55 pm - 3 replies

I need to add a section into my blog in which the visitors add their email address and they receive a notification email every time a new blog post is posted, something like notification email in this forum.

I have searched in docs and forum posts but i couldn't find anything.

Can someone help me to find the way to do it or if there is some doc or tutorial.

It is a native functionality: users (who already have an email) can subscribe to be notified of content changes fir a node or a subtree.

They will need appropriate permissions.

You can start at the url /notification/settings

Thank you very much for ur answer,

I have added these line :

<span class="line"><form method="post" action={'/content/action'|ezurl}></span>
 <span class="line"><input type="hidden" name="ContentNodeID" value="{$node.node_id}" /></span>
 <span class="line"><input type="submit" name="ActionAddToNotification" value="Keep me updated" /></span>
 <span class="line"></form>

and now the button goes to the login page.

Can i change it in a way that users write down only their email and the rest goes automatically.

And another question , in this way each time i have to run the cronjobs in command line but is there any way for the blogger to run it from admin site.

Could you please help me...

About the cronjob: you have to schedule it using crontab.

There could be extensions to execute it via the GUI, but I don't expect you to connect to the site and click on "send notifications" every 5 minutes...

As for the user not creating an account and only leaving his email when he wants to be notified, I do not think it is supported. Maybe there is a community extension for that, otherwise it has to be developed. Note that sending notifications without checking 1st if the email owner really wants to receive them is considered bad practice (I could eg. fill in your address)

I will check your code to see if it is correct. Did you try running it while logged in as admin? Do you still get redirected to homepage if you do?
