Site crashes after clearing cache

Site crashes after clearing cache

Thursday 18 September 2014 11:57:42 pm - 8 replies

Hi,
I have a website based on EzPublish 4.4, with EzFlow included and hosted on shared host. I've been facing the following problems:
1. When I clear the cache, the admin interface crashes and the site content disappears from ezflow_site.
2. The site was initially hosted on a VPS (note that all the site content was added there), but since it moved to the shared host I'm unable to edit or create any content.

Please any ideas on how to solve this?

Yes. Buy dedicated hosting and never look back.

Hello Fátima,

As harsh as kracker is, there is wisdom in his advice.

Shared hosting almost never helps eZ Publish perform well.

In short your problem is not really at its core an eZ Publish problem.

Your problem is a hosting resources problem, one that no cms can solve with code when the required resources are simply not available.

My one suggestion is to setup static cache feature which serves static html pages greatly reducing the average performance requirements.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Heath

Hi all,

Thanks for your quick reply.
Because shared hosting has less costs than the dedicated one, i had to move the site from the dedicated to the share.
Heath, I will try to set up the static cache. I never did it before, but will search for information on how to do that.
But I'm still curious why ezPublish can't work perfectly on a Shared Host, while other open CMS do? I found here in the forum few people that could successfully install ez on a Shared host.
Initially, I used to host my sites on goDaddy and they have assistance for installation of various CMS but unfortunately ez Publish is not on the list. Because of that o moved to a smaller company, that can give me better assistance on the hosting. Unfortunatlly, The problem still persists...

Hello Fátima,

We recently release a tools to help generate / regenerate static cache files dynamically via command line:

I hope this helps!

About why eZPublish is not great on shared hosting: it is just a consequence of the fact that it focuses on "big" customers and websites. Since there are not infinite resources for developing/testing/writing documentation, choices have to be made regarding what gets prioritized.

As for your installation: problems might be related to filesystem permissions, number of database queries, or visitor traffic (or many other things).

On shared hosting the databases often are limited to a certain amount of queries per minute. Or the pages might be using too much time to finish rendering, and the maximum execution time for php is set too low and can not be changed by the user.

The static cache, suggested by Heath, helps with high traffic. But it will not reduce the number of queries that eZ executes when the caches are cleared - so it might help or not in your case.

Side note 1: ezflow needs cronjobs to be set up to run properly. Does your shared host allow them?

Side note 2: you should not need to clear all caches in day to day operation. Only when you deploy an upgrade of the site (new templates or settings). If you clear all caches when publishing content, you are doing something wrong.

ps: you can get dedicated hosting for 10 euros per month nowaday - f.e. google for "dedibox"

Thank you Gaetano, Heath and Kracker for your help.
Gaetano, really appreciated your notes:

I'm analyzing all the possibilities that you gave me and get in touch with my host provider.
