Introduction

Nearing the release of the new eZ Publish 5 Platform, I have taken a look back over the last 12-18 months, spent relentlessly on building the new era of eZ Publish's history: eZ Publish 5, a platform whose mission is "Empowering Enterprises with the Freedom To Create Sustainable Digital Business"

Regarding the additional resources, the Intro to eZP5 for eZP3/4 developers needs updating (as some of the information conflicts with the more recent documentation), and it perhaps should be stated here that the 5.x documentation is mainly in Confluence, but is a Work-In-Progress, and some areas (installation & upgrading) are yet to be migrated.

Is the 5.0 documentation now full & complete (install & upgrade aside)?  If not, what is the timeframe for completion?

Thanks Geoff for the feedback, I just updated the post accordingly.

Hi Geoff!

We plan to have the 5.0 documentation finalized by the end of this week.
Which means going over existing documentation and do a tech reviewing and an editorial review. We will also add some more doc on certain parts of the system, first REST and an initial Cookbook for Public API use.

So the current duality of the documentation will remain for some time, the logical separation for the time being will be that documentation which mainly covers legacy functionality stays on doc.ez.no, while pure 5.x kernel doc are added to confluence.

Understood; and so, we should see a gradual growth in Confluence docs and a reduction in doc.ez.no docs as more & more legacy functionality is moved into the 5.x world.

I am confused. Is the next release going to have an option to be installed without eZ publish legacy? If not, do you have any idea about when it is going to happen?

Hi Thiago

eZ Publish 5 should be usable standalone (without legacy dependency) as of 5.2, so next year. Legacy kernel will still be provided but only for developers who need it, core won't use it any more.
The legacy kernel will be provided until v6
