How to create a video blog - HW Suggests

Thursday 27 October 2011 10:13:49 am - 3 replies

Hi Ez Publish Community,I need just some information about a project that i would like to start next days.I would like to create a video blog where user could post video, photo and other information about sports.I would like to host all the video on my server.I don't think there should be any problem to do it with Ez, but what about HW configuration? I know that Video should be the "worst" content to share if you host it too. What do u think I need to host it? Or if you think it's better to have it on an external server, could u suggest me any good WebHost?Tnx a lot to everybody.Bye.Paolo.

Hello Paolo,

I would create a solution based in eZ Publish to manage all your videos within eZ, while also publishing them to a cdn and publicly only linking to the cdn content (not the files in the eZ Publish var dir). In this way you reap the best benefits of using a cdn.
I've done something similar to this (with var dir files published to cdn) using this extension,

http://projects.ez.no/xrowcdn

I was surprised it worked so well.

I hope this helps ...

Cheers,

Heath

Hello Heath,

really good idea!!! I've never used cloudfront before, but seems it works really good to what I would like to do.

So I've my external solution now happy.gif Emoticon.

If I would like to compare this solution (and princing, but I see that cloudfront WebSite has every information I need) to a "full internal" solution (so a dedicated physical server) to share video content, what do you think I need as Server?

I thought that ext solution was better (and now with Heath Suggest more than ever)...

Tnx a lot to everybody.

Bye Paolo.

Hello Paolo,

Your very welcome, I am happy to help happy.gif Emoticon

Remember your server configuration is really based on the expected or known load the system will incur. This is really something only you can determin.

That said, I have found eZ Publish runs it's very best on a dedicated server(s) which run one of the supported reference platforms (see requirements docs). I almost always recommend dedicated hosting for almost every eZ Publish project I've ever worked with. I would politely decline to use a shared server as the worst hosting choice you could make with eZ Publish.

Let us know what you decide to do Paolo happy.gif Emoticon

I hope this helps ...

Cheers,

Heath
