Introduction

Ever dreamed of having an eZ Publish-specific job board ? Read-on and tell us how you picture it !

Hi everyone, 

Posting the notes of the last share.ez.no team meeting on this topic : 

The discussion leans towards integrating a third-party solution, which is sensed to accelerate integration of the feature. We can test-drive a third-party solution for a few months and roll-back to an eZ Publish-based solution if not satisfactory. Additional criteria were added : 

 - Possibility to add a job at no cost,

 - Possibility to change this in the future,

Opensource alternatives to hosted services seem to exist, but quality-assessment must be done on them. Robin will investigate two of them (on is http://www.jobberbase.com/features/ ) and report on this. Philippe will ask to the owners of remixjobs.com, a well known IT job site if they propose hosted versions.

 

Please share more thoughts, we will make a decision soon,

Here is the consolidated list of choice criteria : 

  • Free for owner and submitters (but possibility to change this for submitters),
  • Available API for data extraction or configurable embeddable widget,
  • RSS feed,Simple stats available,
  • Tunable look'n feel when directly viewed,
  • Customizable URL ( jobs.ez.no type of),
  • Powerful drilldown, facetted search,
  • User account API, for coordination with the reputation engine,
  • Seamless account integration with the 3rd-party solution (avoid the 'yet-another-account' issue),
  • Assured relevancy & scope (some job board automatically flood the job base with external job offers, based on keyword match).

My previous post, consolidated list of criteria, integrates your points. I believe a 3rd-party solution will speed-up integration and bring better results eventually.

Just a tough from me...

Besides speeding up the integration, a 3rd party solution would be a nice way of prototyping an testing the job board functionalities.

So after having the 3rd party job board active for some time we should know better what to do and not to, and what features are needed and wanted. In my opinion, that would be a good prepration for "the real" job board made completely in eZP.

Hi all,

I've assessed one hosted and one open source solution. When done with the assessment, I started wondering; why not create a new content class, some design files and specifications for access control? This would have the benefit of being more flexible in terms of integrating features like the reputation system and more.

Other benefit is that we could release this to the full community as well.

I'm curious how others in the community think of this solution.

p.s. a dedicated forum might be an idea also, but not sure on integration with future reputation system would work.

Sorry for the late response.  Yes, I guess I'll have to wait and see.  I tend to be wary of external options but maybe this one has a good case.  If I have the time and there is the need I'll pitch in again, although the time thing is not looking good at the moment (it could change).

My suggestion is that before that decision we write down the complete set of features and functionalities that the job board would have to have.

One plus for the 3rd party solution is that it can show us some features and ideas that we wouldn't think of when doing our own solution.
