Introduction

Google Analytics is the most popular tool for understanding how people are finding and using your site. In addition to its standard reports, you can use its User ID feature to get more fine-grained reporting about registered users. This enables you to better measure, anticipate, and meet or exceed your users' needs.

A word of caution when delving into tracking individuals in this way...

Google Analytics privacy policy states:

You will not (and will not allow any third party to) use the Service to track, collect or upload any data that personally identifies an individual (such as a name, email address or billing information), or other data which can be reasonably linked to such information by Google.

So tracking the userId should be ok, as google cannot reasonably link the userId to an email address without first compromising your database. (You may wish to check that pages like /content/versionview/<user_id>/1/eng-GB are not publicly accessible).
