Calendar next/previous links

I'm trying to get Joe Kepley's Blend Calendar to work on a test site. My problem is that I'm not sure how the URL generation works within the calendar table. The next/previous URLs (which don't work) in Blendcalendar are as follows:

And links in the standard eZ Publish multicalendar (which work fine) are like:

All CSS and JS files appear to be present, and in the right order. So what's going on?

Yeah - Joe should know, but he ain't telling. I posted a question on the projects page about three months ago, but Joe no show.

What I have worked out is that it's not a js issue. Tried disabling js and the standard calendar still works fine.

So what I'm looking for are some pointers about how those brackety URLs are generated. For the standard calendar eZ is generating pages for months and days off URLS like http://mysite.local/Events/(month)/7/(year)/2012, but not for the recurring event calendar. In the same install.

I have a feeling this is a basic PHP thing, but I don't know the term to search for.
