eZTags Priority/Ordering?

eZTags Priority/Ordering?

Thursday 21 February 2013 2:54:26 pm - 3 replies

I am currently implementing tags on my site for navigation and was wondering if I could change the order of the tags or prioritize them similar to objects within the content structure. I saw a post that described removing them, publishing, then re-adding them in the correct order and publishing but this to me sounds a little trivial.

I was hoping someone might have a better solution or could inform me if that type of functionality exists within the structure.

Hi Ryan,

the post you saw was mine happy.gif Emoticon

Unfortunatelly, there's no such functionality in eZ Tags yet, since it's not a trivial feature to implement (think about attribute edit interface, this feature would immensely complicate it).

Removing tags, publishing, then re-adding them in the correct order was my suggestion because, when no sort is specified, you get back the items naturally sorted, which is in order they were created in the database.

EDIT: A viable solution could maybe be drag & drop of tags in attribute edit interface.

Okay. My concern however, is if you remove a tag and then re-add it, it would potentially remove that tag on any associated items/objects since the tag no longer exists. Then after re-adding the tag you would have to go back and re-tag all the items with that tag. Am I correct in thinking so?

Ah, I missunderstood you,

you are talking about the administration interface of eZ Tags? I was referring to attribute edit interface.

That certainly makes things more simpler happy.gif Emoticon

Than my suggestion about removing/readding tags wouldn't work as you guessed, It would remove tags from objects and you would need to readd them all over again happy.gif Emoticon

In that case, for now, I have no suggestions on how to achieve the priority sorting, but it is something that would be worth to add to eZ Tags.
