Backlog of ideas

Tuesday 18 October 2011 12:22:36 pm - 5 replies

I thought we could use this topic as a backlog of ideas. Some of them might make their way in to eZ Roadmap, others might turn into bug-fixes or smaller enhancements.

The overarching idea is to bring to public knowledge ideas spread on many different places. If you stumble upon an idea you find useful, report it here with a bunch of details (and credits if it isn't yours).

Happy sharing !

Here is the first one  :

(started from here )

2nd one: keep history of all versions of content classes

3rd one: move section to node instead of object

4th one: move states to versions instead of objects

Then: add an in-memory caching layer useful for not having to go to the database every time when an object, a version or a node is fetched again and again in the same script: Try to make it better (more generic and more used) than the existing eZContentObjectContentObjectCache, eZContentObjectDataMapCache and eZContentObjectVersionCache caches

Another idea: make usage of remoteid pervasive. This means that when I assign a value to an object-relation attribute, I should be able to seamlessly do it either using an object-id or a remote-object-id.

This is something that is needed for the upcoming v2 rest-api, and that is also needed if we want the same validation rules to be applied regardless of the original format used to create content (web forms from site, json from rest calls, xml from packages, hand-built from import scripts)

@Gaetano: better ID management & usage is a key piece of the new API. Remote IDs were added after the initial design of the current API, and indeed aren't integrated enough in its usage.

About your ideas in the previous reply, I guess that you have added them in the eZ Roadmap, right ? Could you then add links to them in your post ? It would be much easier to subscribe to or vote for them happy.gif Emoticon
