Problem with new Virtual Host Configuration

Problem with new Virtual Host Configuration

Friday 27 March 2015 6:19:58 pm - 4 replies

Hi,

Since I have upgraded my site to ezpublish5 , with the new virtual host configurations I cannot use my Aliases which point to external directories any more!

My site: var/www/MySite/ezpublish_legacy

my Alias: var/www/MyAlias

I should have : www.mysite.com/MyAlias

Before I had:

<Directory /var/www/MySite/ezpublish_legacy>

Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride All

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
.... every thing that should be here
</IfModule>
</Directory>

Alias /MyAlias /var/www/MyAlias

<Directory /var/www/MyAlias>
    Options -Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
</Directory>

This just doesnt work with the new one, i got: kernel(20) /404

Is there any solution?Can anyone help?

Hello pa,

I'm very glad you posted this question today. I remember you mentioning this problem indirectly in another thread.

I did a bit of research on this topic and a bit of testing myself to find a possible solution.

I found I could get the alias functionality you shared in your examples working with the addition of the following to the virtual host mod_rewrite rules (at the top would be best!)

RewriteEngine On

RewriteRule ^/MyAlias - [PT]

I found this advice from the following thread, it was a little hard to understand at first but it does work (for me): http://stackoverflow.com/questions/334111/how-to-use-apache-mod-rewrite-and-alias-at-the-same-time#answer-334263

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Heath

Rewrite rules + aliases can be quite confusing. I ended up on the same stackoverflow link Heath posted, and that's how I did it in the past.
