Automatic notification if new eZ Publish Update is available?

Automatic notification if new eZ Publish Update is available?

Tuesday 04 September 2012 4:16:28 pm - 7 replies

Hi everyone.

Ez Publish Version in use : Not installed for the moment...

so It should be the last stable version I suppose.

I've search the forum but this I didn't find what I want.

I'd like to know if Ez Publish notify the admin (at least) in case there is a new Version of Ez Publish Available?
(or patch or update or upgrade...)

So in this case does our Ez Publish install  notify us just like the same way a Wordpress does?

Does these notification are made via :

-Email send directly to the mail admin ?

-Alert Message in Ez Publish Dashboard backoffice when the Admin logged in ?

-May be both?

Is there a clear differentiation in these notification according to upgrade's importance  (normal, functional, security issue) ?

If this functionality is quite new, since which version of Ez Publish this functionality is available?

Thanks  by advance to any one who can answer me !

^^

Hi Trash,

There are two strains of eZ Publish - Enterprise (paid, major version updates every 6 months, comes with integrated support) and Community (free, updates every month, no support).  The Enterprise versions are stable; the Community version is not.

By default, the dashboard of the admin interface displays the version you are using, but not the name of the latest version.  If you purchase support via the Enterprise version, you will receive maintenance updates & notifications; otherwise if using the Community Version, a new build is created (usually) every month.

For security patches, see http://share.ez.no/community-project/security-advisories

Hope this resolves your query - if it does, please mark it as resolved by clicking the icon to the left of your query title.

Cheers,
Geoff

Come to think of it, an rss feed of the CP releases would not be hard to set up.

And a pull request that adds a little ajax call in the dashboard to check out if there is a more recent version out is probably not that hard to do...

+1000

since, all eZ Publish developement is done on github you can use their API (http://developer.github.com/) to do check PRs, commits...

@Yannick yes - but we do not store currently in github the eZP-CP releases. Just getting commit/tag info is not enough...

Hi guys,

@All : there currently is a RSS feed for all new eZ Publish Community Project builds, it can be found in the collection of available feeds here: http://share.ez.no/get-involved/exchange#RSS

@Trash : thanks for the suggestion, good one. Would you mind suggesting this idea in the eZ Roadmap? This will present the interest of starting a discussion about the possible ways of notifying eZ Publish CP users of a new version, and then start thinking about the technical ways to implement this. The next step will be a pull-request on the eZ Publish repository.

@Nico I was just going to suggest that we implement the rss feed within share.ez.no - I should have remembered that it actually already existed, doh!

maybe we can introduce the link to the rss feed in the /downloads page?

That is a good idea. Worth a report there: http://issues.ez.no/ProjectSelect.php?Id=6 !

Taking the Events page as example (check the RSS logo by the title) should let us hack that in quickly.
