eZ Publish and Amazon S3 for storage

eZ Publish and Amazon S3 for storage

Tuesday 22 May 2012 8:55:53 pm - 6 replies

Hi,

Somebody has any news about Amazon S3 and CloudFront native support ?

It seems that the feature has been lost near 4.3 version. (T_T)

Just found the xrowCDN (http://projects.ez.no/xrowcdn ) extension to make a part of the job.

Thanks

Hi,

I think you don't need any extension. Amazon cloudfront can download ressources from your server.

See : http://aws.amazon.com/en/cloudfront/#functionality

If you can wait few minutes for cache to expire, you need nothing but another sub-domain (cdn.yoursite.com) to link the CDN.

Thanks Nicolas,

In fact, I'm more interested by S3 support than CloudFront.

Before to try system solutions (like s3fs), I search a application solution to use S3 for eZ Storage in cluster configuration.

I think the feature should be developped when eZ Systems talk about native support of Amazon S3 and CloudFront but it have never been released.

I search to know why ? (no time or some compatibility problems with S3 architecture like latency)

If people have news or tried to do the same...

@Yannick afaik there is no ezdfs-on-s3 cluster manager currently available to the community, but anyone willing to contribute one is welcome

Hi Yannick!

Any updates regarding that subject? I am also interested in Amazon S3 support especially with eZ5 and Symfony2.

Best regards,

Hi Sinisa,

We have not short plan to support S3 on the very current version of eZ Publish. We have a plan for mid term, as part of the new eZ Publish 5 architecture, to support, via the SPI, both NoSQL and pure S3-like storage systems. For now we focus on the previous step: building and consolidating the new repository itself.

This is to speak about the content repository, how ever S3 can also be used for the delivery (as it seems you want to use it) and here, while there is no standard feature in the product, I totally recommend to extend current systems to take benefit of S3+CloudFront for the delivery (HTML and Medias). The extension of XRow would be a good starting point. Other Akamai and Varnish integrations could also be used as inspiration.

All the best
