Questions before choosing eZPublish as CMS

Questions before choosing eZPublish as CMS

Wednesday 17 April 2013 4:29:18 pm - 5 replies

Hello

I actually searching about informations concerning eZPublish. Actually I've to choose one CMS for an university website. We use Infoglue but the community becomming smaller day by day, so we need to install a new CMS. I have some constraints so I need more informations about if eZPublish do this functionality or not.

It's possible to do a intranet ? I mean it's possible for example to do a website and inside to have a part visible for only few members ?

I've seen that we can download a plugin to have LDAP/CAS authentication but there are no update or anything since 2007. The plugin works fine ?
I've seen too that we can manage several websites. It's possible to manage rules or group for each website ?

Is there any plugin for CMIS protocol or any plugin to protect files ? For example, with Infoglue (the actual CMS) we can say "This group can access to this page after its connection, and see this link to download this file. If it's not logging, he can't see the link" but if you give the link to another person the person can download the file after all.

There are a plugin for Shibboleth connection ?

Sorry for my english, if you don't understand a question tell me and I'll try to explain more

Thanks a lot happy.gif Emoticon

Hi,

Several answers:

- intranet (or members section)  can be done using user roles management and configuring more siteaccesses if needed

- authenticating users against LDAP is  standard feature, usually just configuration in ini files, there are also several ways how to map LDAP groups to ez group (everything is explained in docs)

- there is a CMIS community extension on projects.ez.no but don't know the exact status. For controlling access to files is done nativly with the user role management, you don't need CMIS for this

- don't know about any Shibboleth extension, could be that somebody built it but didn't share it happy.gif Emoticon

Hope this helps

Edited: found something that looks like a SAML extension http://projects.ez.no/feide

I have questions about multi-site and protection of files. There are something to protect our files ?. I mean with Infoglue we can said "this users can read this page and download this file" but in fact if you copy the file's link and if you give it to one anybody, he can download the files.

I've seen for example that we can use CMIS protocol but I would like to know if eZpublish manage the protection natively.

How works the sharing of templates, plugin, ... when you use multisite plugin ?

Downloading a file can be done via non-direct link which is checking permission, so yes, you can protect your links to files. Of course you can't prevent someone to download the file and share it by other means.

Multisite is a very broad topic as it can be achieved in many ways, so can't answer without knowing more details

Thanks

If it's not easy because it's a very broad topic. Do you know if it's possible to share templates, plugin with a multi-site plugin ? What is the best eZpublish to manage multi-site, to manage rules for each page of the website, to manage rules for plugins and templates ?

It's possible to blend LDAP/CAS authentication with a local database authentication ?

There are the functionality "Content Provider" like export to XML ?

Multisite feature is not plugin, it is a core function. You can accomplish it by configuring your siteaccesses, check for more details here:
http://doc.ez.no/eZ-Publish/Technical-manual/5.x/Concepts-and-basics/Configuration/Site-management

In each siteaccess configuration you decide what will you use (database, templates, ....)

As mentioned before there is a LDAP auth mechanism, check here: http://doc.ez.no/eZ-Publish/Technical-manual/5.x/Features/LDAP-Login-Handler

For exporting to XML you can either use some community extensions (there are several of them on projects.ez.no) or you can do it via template by your self.
