Best release and requirements for a new installation

Best release and requirements for a new installation

Monday 22 October 2012 9:48:36 am - 6 replies

Hi there.

I'm going to install (again!) EZPublish for a very big portal (with a load of 800/1000 visits per day and several calls to external webservices).

I'm trying to discover which is the best stable release available and which is the best environment I need to set up for this portal to work perfectly.

My last try (more than 1 year ago) was a Virtual Machine, configured as follows: EZPublish 2011.5 on a 4CPU server with 4GB RAM and Ubuntu 10.4 installed.

Also the new installation will be made on a Virtual Machine (no possibility to avoid that).

Any suggestion?

Thanks

2012.6 should be a good choice if you want to run a "4.x" version of eZ Publish

I am sure you already know that - but if it is a "very big portal" then maybe going for the Enterprise version is a good idea. You get patches, support tickets, a few free auditing days, the nice extensions from the eZMarket and more...

As for "best environment", I recommend looking at the requirements for the Ent. version as well - see http://doc.ez.no/eZ-Publish/Technical-manual/4.7/Installation/Requirements. This means RHEL 6.2 (or Centos 6.2) or Debian 6 or Suse 11.

All usual recommendations for best performances apply: fast disks, use noatime+nodiratime for filesystem, get enough ram etc... - in terms of VM, I think that vmware still beats other solutions by at least a few percentage points.

Thank you Gaetano ad Arnaud.

I'm going to evaluate the Enterprise Ed. but I need to ask the client if it likes this solution.

Another Option is eZ Publish Cloud edition, usually quite suitable for smaller budget projects. More on this here.

Cheers Simone,

Thanks everybody.

One more question: are 4.7 Enterprise requirements good (optimal??) also for 4.7 standard version?

Hi Simone,

There is not 4.7 standard version per say, you can get Community Project 2012.5 that is the closest, but still does not provide the same service and stability level as Community Project. The tech requirements are, to my knowledge similar for the Enterprise Edition version and this build of Community Project.

Cheers,
