Priority in newsstream

Hi guys!

I have a case I want to discuss.

We have a page that produces about 5 articles with different content quaility each day. We have a slider-block in the top that authors push the articles to. When the articles gets 2-3 days old it "disappear" down in the newsstream. When we write a really good and popular article we want to be able to "push" this up in the newsstream (not the the slider) and we are thinking about different solutions. One idea is to use the priority field to sort the order of the articles, but still use the modified sorting methods as a "backup". Today we only use modified.

We cannot set the priority field every time we publish a new article, so we have to find a way to increase this number (by 10 or something) automatically when the article gets published. That way, if we have a good article, we can just edit the priority field to something between article X and article Y.

Do you guys think this will work or do you have a better solution? Our installation is 4.7.

What about using with a limit of three or five items, and then using a fetch with sort by modified?

The priority approach sounds good.

But how about "flagging" them with like a "High quality" checkbox, and simply, from the block, fetch elements with high_quality = true, sorted by publishing date, with the limit you need ?

Betsy, thanks for your comment. I don't think that I what we are looking for. The most important is that the editors can decide what article to show in the top.

Bertrand: I think that sound like a pretty good solution. But we need to have a way to sort this "high quality"-articles separate as well.

We are trying out a solution with EzFlow and a lot of blocks now. So the editor can push the article to different blocks on the frontpage.

Well, it's kind of what eZ Flow was made for, so yes, it does make sense happy.gif Emoticon
