Template, vars

Hi everybody,

Now I've installed ezPublish with success I have to understand how it works and so, I have many questions.

It's a little bit hard to understand how it generates templates and/or executes code, isnt it ?

During the installation, I had no choice but to choose at least one extension, so I chose a template with some content, the whole thing uses ezwebin extension.

What does this extension contain, only templates or also features ? Does it mean that if I want to create my own template, with my own CSS I have to create an extension ?

I activated in the admin panel the view of templates used on each page so I know where I have to modify files, but in theses files some vars are used like "$pagedesign". There is a lot of conditions applied on this var and its sub_objects but where this var is defined ? Because really, I dont know at all  how to deal with ezPublish..

Thanks a lot,

Invest the time in an overview, you will save yourself a lot of trouble.  There are lots of great resources here, I would start with this and then continue through other tutorials to learn more.

This book‎ really helped me.  It is written for an older version but many of the important concepts remain.

It will take time to learn and appreciate how to work with eZ, but it is worth it.

You are starting at a great time because the version 5 architecture with Symfony is very cool.
