Why can't users search in site if not logged in?

I have been given admin to a ezpublish 2014-6 site. Before when you tried to search there was a popup for login. I have removed that popup now but still I can not search if I am not logged in. I am always taken to the home page if I search and not logged in. I guess this must be some logic in a template but do not know where to look. Or is there a setting in the site.ini.append.php in the override folder that I missed? Or is the search restricted from the user pages in admin? I can not find anything there for controlling searching.

Hello Asle,

Welcome to the eZ Community!

First a few questions ...

Question #1: Are you able to search correctly when logged in to the user or admin siteaccess.

Question #2: Are you logging in and searching with a non-admin user account? This answer matters greatly.

Question #3: Have you reviewed the role policies for the role the normal or non-privleged users? This also includes the anonymous user role!

It sounds like the anonymous user role might not have a role policy which grants the right to use the content/search module view on possibly either siteaccess (admin or user).

You many need to add the required role policies for your roles to grant this access to both authenticated and anonymous users.

Please feel free to share more information about your roles and their policy rules as it sounds like you might have some bit of customization already in play which might confuse things a little.

I hope this helps!
